Identified, monitored, researched, and analyzed legislative and regulatory issues to inform conclusions about tech policy effectiveness.

Drafted and submitted the public comments and position statements listed below. These policy products have been cited by the National Telecommunications and Information Administration, the UK’s Royal Statistical Society, and the EU’s Scientific Advice Mechanism.

Managed the full lifecycle of all ACM Technology Policy Committee public facing statements. Responsible for building consensus among committee members.

Public Comments

  • Comments to the NTIA on the Internet of Things, March 2017

    The ACM US Public Policy Council submitted comments on the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) green paper “Fostering the Advancement of the Internet of Things.”

  • Comments to the DOJ on Title II Entities Covered by ADA, October 2016

    The ACM US Public Policy Council submitted comments on various issues relating to the potential application of technical accessibility requirements for title II entities covered by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

  • Comments to NIST on the State of Cybersecurity, September 2016

    The ACM US Public Policy Council submitted comments on the current and future states of cybersecurity in the digital economy.

  • Comments to NTIA on the Internet of Things, June 2016

    The ACM US Public Policy Council submitted comments to the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) on the potential benefits and challenges of the Internet of Things and what role the U.S. Government should play in this area.

Policy & Position Statements

  • Statement on Computing and Network Security

    The ACM US Public Policy Council issued a set of guidelines for organizations to protect the security of their computing and network systems. In its Statement on Computing and Network Security, the Council identified nine principles that entities should follow to protect their systems from threats.

  • Statement on Accessibility, Usability, and Digital Inclusiveness

    The Association for Computing Machinery’s US Public Policy Council (USACM) released a statement and set of principles on accessibility, usability, and digital inclusiveness.

  • Statement on IoT Privacy and Security

    The ACM US Public Policy Council and the ACM Europe Council Policy Committee issued a statement on IoT Privacy and Security addressing existing and expected privacy and security concerns in the Internet of Things (IoT) ecosystem.

  • Statement on Algorithmic Transparency and Accountability

    Recognizing the ubiquity of algorithms in our daily lives, as well as their far-reaching impact, the ACM US Public Policy Council and the ACM Europe Council Policy Committee issued a joint statement with a list of seven principles designed to address potential harmful bias.
